Quality is better than quantity – a simplicist life

quality over quantity - Andre Schütz - simplicitytogo

To be honest, the battle, if quality or quantity is better, depends on the situation. There are situations when quantity can be important or even save lives. But today, let’s talk about less life risky situations.

If you buy things with a bad quality, you will often buy them twice. I think this saying is famous in nearly every language. In German we say:

“Wer billig kauft, kauft zweimal.”

so,

“Who buys cheap, buys twice.”

And this is often the case. If the item does not solve your problems or fulfills the expectations, you won’t be happy.

Therefore, it makes sense to compare and maybe pay a little bit more to be happy with the result and use it for a longer time.

Why I try to buy shoes of better quality

I often made this mistake with shoes. Bought some cheap ones and have often been really disappointed with the walking comfort and the general quality of the shoes.

Since two years, I buy barefoot shoes for the summer months. And hell, what should I say. Love to walk in them and the quality is really much better.

The same for my coming winter shoes. I will definitely compare different brands and find out which are really warm AND waterproof. Especially the latter one was always a point of big disappointment for me.

Quality matters everywhere (example in programming)

For me as a software engineer, quality is also a very important characteristic for the code that I produce and that I have to work with, if I take it over from other developers.

If the quality of the code is bad, you can have the following problems:

  • It takes more time to understand the code.
  • If tests are missing, some errors occur first, when it is too late.
  • The maintenance of the whole application is more problematic.

Therefore, quality is not only important for you, but also for others who are dependent on your produced content.

Quality of conversations and content

But also in our daily life, the quality of the conversations and interactions is becoming more relevant. Over the past few years, everybody thought, quantity of interaction and advertisement is the key. Some statistics speak about between 10.000 and 15.000 advertising messages. Per day.

But, as we learned. Ok, not everybody, but some have learned. Quality is the real value that lets you stick out from the mass.

If the quality of the content which you create is great, you won’t have to produce masses of trivial contents. People are overwhelmed by too much content.

Daily.

That what really gets our attention is often the stuff that stands out from the rest.

Try it and you will be more happy with what you do.

Improve your healthiness

And, as a real benefit of quality versus quantity. You will have less stress.

Quantity means often that you have to produce. Every hour, every day, every month.

It is a game that you only can lose. There will be a point in time when you are depleted. But you have no chance, the game goes on.

To not let it come that far, try to avoid this. Think, what really is the message that you want to transmit and find a way to do it in an interesting way. People will notice that.

That matters for our conversations, our relationships and material items.

Quality wins over quantity. Do not wait, start immediately.

See ya.
